01 Where money disappears on site

Scattered is as good as lost.

Measurement on a note, agreement in the chat, photo in the gallery, defects in a spreadsheet. None of them knows where it belongs.

Each of these places holds a piece of the truth, but none of them knows where on site it belongs. When a variation is disputed or a defect is denied, the search begins: on a colleague’s phone, in the chat history, in a folder with hundreds of pictures. SchnurPlan flips that round. Every photo, every measurement and every agreement gets its own place on the drawing, as a pin with a timestamp. So you can find it again, even months later.

  1. Note The measurement is on a note. The note gets wet or stays in the van. So you drive back and measure again. On the drawing: the dimension line on its wall, and the measurement table does the maths.
  2. Group chat The agreement is in the chat. Promised in the group chat, then buried under a hundred messages. When the variation is billed, nobody can find it. On the drawing: note and task on the pin, with date and owner.
  3. Gallery The photo is in the gallery. Hundreds of pictures, none with a location. Which one shows the crack, and on which wall was it? On the drawing: the photo on the pin, with name, date and time.
  4. Spreadsheet The defects are in a spreadsheet. The row says “crack wall”. Which wall, which photo, and who is taking care of it? On the drawing: every defect a pin with a task, the list goes out as a PDF.

And in the basement with no signal? Everything waits on the device and goes out as soon as there is a connection again.

The drawing goes into the project as a PDF, from the PC or straight from the phone. The app also opens drawings in DWG, DXF or SVG, and you can switch layers on and off. From then on the drawing is your filing system: a long press drops a pin, and everything you find at that spot goes on it. Anyone who opens the project can see at a glance where everything is. No more digging through folders.

The defect is pinned right where it is.

Everything to do with that spot goes on the pin: photos, 360° shots, notes, voice notes, checklists and files. The photo from the phone travels encrypted through the server into the project, with no detour via the PC. No signal? Then it waits on the device and goes out as soon as there is a connection again. Plan, pins and photos

  • Import the drawing, drop a pin, attach everything to it.

    The PDF drawing is where the project gets filed. You import it on the PC or the phone; the app also opens DWG, DXF and SVG drawings, and you can switch layers on and off. That gives every pin its own place on the drawing. Anyone opening the project finds photos, notes and tasks right where they came up on site.

  • Photos, 360°, notes, voice notes, checklists and files in one place.

    A long press on the drawing creates a pin, and you give it a name such as “Crack north wall”. Photos, 360° shots, notes, daily notes, voice notes, checklists and files all go on it. On the PC, pins can also have colours and categories to filter by when exporting. Lots of photos at once? On the PC, simply drag and drop them onto the pins.

  • Sign in, take the photo, pick the pin. It travels encrypted through the server into the project.

    In the web app you sign in with your organisation ID and your login. The photo goes into the project with no pairing and no detour via the PC. No signal on site? The photo waits on the device and goes out as soon as there is a connection again. If a phone goes missing, you revoke that one device in your account.

  • Two photos of the same spot, a slider between them, both dated.

    From the second photo on the same pin, a slider overlays before and after. You do not need a 360° camera for this; two ordinary photos will do. On the PC you pick the pair yourself and zoom into the detail with the magnifier, 360° shots included. The comparison is kept in the HTML report; on the phone you see the shots one by one.

Capture, measure, draw

  • 360° shots go on the pin just like photos. On the PC with an Insta360 camera and live preview.

    On the PC you connect an Insta360 camera via USB or the camera’s Wi-Fi, see the live image and trigger the shot from the app. On the phone you add finished panoramas from the gallery to the pin, and the app detects 2:1 images automatically. On the drawing, every shot sits at its pin. For clients, it all becomes an HTML file they can look around in.

  • Calibrate the scale once, then measure lengths, areas and walls right on the drawing.

    The Scale tool sets the scale of the plan page. Then you measure with dimension line, polyline, area, circle area, wall area with height and floor area. Deduction areas take out windows and doors. The figures appear right on the drawing. Photos have no scale: there you write the measured value onto the dimension line, and the app does not add a figure of its own.

  • Length, wall m² and floor m² per plan page. Export as PDF or CSV, shareable straight from the phone.

    The measurement table collects every measurement on the open plan page by category, with a total row for each type of calculation. Wall and floor areas are never lumped together. Tap a row and its markup is selected on the drawing. You export measurements and the room book for the page, the plan or the whole project as PDF or CSV, and share them via WhatsApp or email.

  • Handwriting turns into clean shapes and text. A tick creates a to-do.

    With the action pen you draw as you would on paper. A shaky line becomes a straight one, a circle a clean ellipse, handwriting turns into text. Whatever you scribble out disappears. A tick creates a to-do at exactly that spot. On top of that: magnifier, highlighter, legend and undo for every step.

Cutting and reports

  • PC only

    Cutting with little waste. The workshop plan comes as HTML, PDF and DXF.

    SchnurCut calculates the sheet layout in a C++ core. It takes edge banding into account, handles L-cuts, and the waste badge shows honest figures. The result is a workshop plan in which every sheet is clickable: as HTML for any browser, as PDF for the workshop and as DXF for the machine. The cutting plan is calculated on the PC.

  • PC only

    Lay out facades around their openings, with the substructure as a grid. The same nesting works for floors, roofs and interior fit-out.

    Facade areas including window and door openings are covered completely: L-shaped parts around opening corners, minimum webs, selectable grain direction. You plan the substructure as a grid along with it. The same calculation also lays out floorboards, roofing boards and plasterboard on the stock sheets so that little is left over. That is called nesting. The C++ core works through the variants, and you see the waste before a single sheet is ordered. All of this runs on the PC.

  • PC only

    Drawings as vectors, pins that jump back, timestamps on everything. The client only needs a PDF reader.

    The report opens with a cover page and leads through the drawings to every pin. One click on a pin opens its detail page, a second takes you back to the drawing. The original drawings stay as true vectors, so they stay sharp when you zoom in. Every shot carries its timestamp. Beforehand you filter by pin category, so only what the recipient should see goes in.

  • PC only

    Every photo lands on its day and at its pin, with no extra step.

    The site diary PDF reads the capture date from every photo and assigns it to the right day and the right pin. You take photos as usual, and the diary writes itself along the way. Daily notes on the pin record what was discussed that day. So by the end of each day it is clear what happened where.

Team and tasks

  • PC only

    When it was created, when each photo and each task was added. Every pin keeps its own log.

    On the PC every pin keeps a history: creation, new photos, new or changed tasks, each with its time. When a defect is disputed, this is the page the site manager turns to. The history builds itself as you work. Nobody has to enter anything extra.

  • Every to-do has an owner, a deadline and its pin on the drawing.

    Tasks are created right at the pin: from a note, from a photo or with a tick of the action pen. They have an owner, a due date and a priority. Opening a task takes you to its spot on the drawing. As a PDF, the to-do list also reaches people who do not use the app.

  • Channels with @mentions, photos and files. The message goes out straight away; attachments follow.

    Every project has its own channels, plus direct messages. With an @mention you reach exactly the person concerned. You attach photos, videos and files; the message goes out straight away and large files follow in the background. The notification centre gathers everything, with an unread counter. Agreements stay with the project instead of vanishing into private groups.

  • Handovers, deadlines and appointments in one calendar for the whole team.

    Appointments sit in the same project as drawings and photos. At the next sync the whole team sees them, on the PC and on the phone. So the foreman knows about the handover, and the office knows who will be there. Four calendars on four phones become one.

Sync, offline, permissions

  • Encrypted through the SchnurSolutions server. Drawings, pins and photos go out when you save.

    Team sync runs TLS-encrypted through our server. Drawings, pins, photos and markups go out as soon as you save. Chat, calendar and tasks follow at the next sync. If two people are working on the same spot, the app warns them beforehand. Avatars show who is in which project right now.

  • Keep working in the basement with no signal. Sync catches up as soon as there is a connection again.

    Projects are kept on the device and keep working without internet. Changes wait in the outbox and go out as soon as there is a connection. We are upfront about the limit: after 14 days without a connection the app locks editing until it has reconnected. On the phone you choose which projects are kept in full on the device; the titles of all projects stay visible.

  • The organisation decides who sees which project. The server checks every request.

    Members get their login from their organisation’s administrators, with a username and password for the app. The organisation decides which projects each person sees, and every request goes through the permission check on the server. You revoke lost devices one by one in your account. Co-administrators can take the admin work off your hands.

  • Clients, surveyors or architects see shared projects. Free and read-only.

    Anyone who only needs to follow along needs no licence. You invite them by email, and they see the shared drawings, pins, photos and 360° shots in the free SchnurViewer for Windows. They cannot change anything. The lock sits on the server: every attempt by a guest to write anything is rejected there.

AI, devices and backups

  • ChatGPT or Claude work in your projects with your permissions, never more.

    Through the connector you link ChatGPT or Claude to your organisation. The assistant reads projects, drawings and chats, creates tasks and pins or produces a PDF report, depending on whether you allow read only or read and write. Everything runs on the server, and every write action is recorded in the audit log. Cutting lists are still calculated on the PC.

  • The full program on Windows. On iPhone, iPad and Android in the browser, no app store needed.

    SchnurPlan runs natively on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11. On phone and tablet you open the web app in the browser and add it to your home screen as an icon. There is no installation file and no app store approval to wait for. We do not support Mac or Linux, and we would rather tell you up front.

  • Every update carries our Ed25519 signature. The app checks it before installing.

    You download the installer from your account or from the download page. Before every update the app checks the checksum and the Ed25519 signature, and installs only what passes both. If you wish, you can also compare the file’s SHA-256 value against the one on the download page.

  • The server backs up every organisation daily and keeps seven days of backups.

    Every night at 00:00 UTC the server backs up each organisation’s data, on a seven-day rotation. When you restore, the previous state is kept as a separate restore point. Your organisation’s administrators can restore it themselves, in the app, with a typed confirmation. A mirror server keeps a second copy; switching over in an emergency is done manually.

Who is on site today?

No more timesheets cobbled together from memory on a Friday. In the morning everyone starts their working day in the app; in the evening they confirm it. If their location is inside the site area, that assigns the day to the site; otherwise the site QR code does.

The office sees who has started and who has confirmed. The server stamps every entry with the server time and logs it so it can be traced.

To be honest: the app only uses your location while it is open. No movement profile, no background tracking. Your organisation can make geofencing subject to consent; the QR code always works.

Drawings, pins and photos go out when you save; chat and calendar at the next sync. You will not find accuracy figures or customer numbers here, because we cannot back them up. On site you rarely lose a whole day. You lose it a quarter of an hour at a time: the drawing that turned out to be out of date, the photo stuck on a colleague’s phone, the timesheet filled in from memory on a Friday.

The calculator only counts time that SchnurPlan actually touches: searching and chasing, measure-ups, reports, snags and variations, timesheets. You count the jobs you know and pick their size – the minutes behind them are cautious assumptions, not a measurement of your firm. Every minute is valued at what a working hour costs you and set against the licences – MAX 200.00 EUR and Attendance 15.00 EUR per user per month, excluding VAT. Each value shows where it comes from; the workings are shown alongside.

Does SchnurPlan work offline?

Yes. Take-off, documentation and cutting work without internet — for up to 14 days beyond the end of the paid period. After that, editing is locked until the app has been online again. As soon as you are back online, the server sync reconciles your changes automatically.

How does the team sync work?

Your projects run encrypted through the SchnurSolutions server. Plans, pins, photos and drawings go out the moment you save; chat, calendar and to-dos are picked up at the next sync. Avatars show who is working in which project. The migration assistant lifts existing OneDrive projects onto the server: it only reads the old files, leaves them untouched and counts every row at the end. One condition we state openly: if the old OneDrive exchange folder has not been worked through yet, the old sync has to be switched on once for that — it is off by default.

Who can see my projects?

Only the members of your organisation who have been granted access — every access is checked on the server. Transmission runs over TLS, and every file carries a checksum that exposes silent modification.

Is my data backed up?

Yes. The server backs up every organisation daily at 00:00 UTC, with a 7-day rotation; a restore keeps the previous state as its own point. A mirror server holds a second copy. To be honest: switching over to the mirror is done by a person, not by automation.

What is SchnurCut?

The built-in cutting optimiser: it cuts your waste down to size and delivers an interactive shop plan (HTML) plus a saw-ready PDF at the press of a button.

Which devices does it run on?

SchnurPlan runs natively on Windows. On iPhone and iPad you use the web app at app.schnursolutions.com, same projects, no app store needed.

What does it cost?

MAX is €200 per user and month, net plus VAT, and includes every tool. Attendance is €15 per user and month and can only be added on top: at least one active MAX licence is required. Both quantity-based, cancel monthly.

How much storage is included — and how safe is my data?

MAX includes 100 GB per organisation. Need more? Add 100 GB blocks for €30 net per month, right from your account. Your data sits on our own server; we back up daily, seven days back. Your own organisation admin can restore — in the app’s backup window, with a typed confirmation. Backups do not count towards your quota.

Is there a trial?

Yes: 14 days, no credit card. The clock only starts at your first sign-in in the desktop app, not at registration. It includes one MAX licence and five attendance seats.
